9. The S-5 Sunken Submarine

On September 1, 1920, the USS S-5, a US Navy submarine, unintentionally sank while undergoing trial runs. Several people worked together to save lives, and eventually the submarine was refloated, even though it eventually sank while being towed again.

Before being found by a U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration survey ship in July 2001, the precise location of the wreckage was unknown. Following its hunt for the submarine, the survey ship donated its SONAR data to be displayed at the Submarine Force Library and Museum in Connecticut.
