When most people think of sunken treasure, they usually imagine the depths of the ocean, but occasionally it could just be resting in a little body of water on land, covered in a lot of mud. In a network of Etruscan-built baths in Tuscany, twenty-four prehistoric statues were found.

Before these statues were ultimately discovered again, they had been submerged in muck and water for thousands of years. Aside from these statues, additional artifacts from the time were discovered, such as coins with Etruscan and Latin inscriptions. This dig has been dubbed an “extraordinary discovery” by many, providing important new information on the way of life of the ancient Etruscans.
