Since the turn of the century, efforts to save marine life have drastically changed as more and more people rush to do so. Who would have thought to submerge a real plane into the water as an artificial reef, even with the urgency of the situation? Less than 30 of these Boeing 737-200s are now recognized as being in service, making them extremely rare aircraft. The last one was delivered in 1988.

Notwithstanding the aircraft’s rarity, the Air Canada Boeing 737 was intentionally sunk in 2006 as a vessel intended to act as an artificial reef, following extensive preparation and sterilization. Currently home to more than a hundred different types of marine life, the airplane remnants are submerged 60 feet below the surface of the water. Who would have guessed that even an airplane could have two lives?
