Because the city was built of such massive stones, the locals who had discovered its ruins believed that the builders were a race of giants. The ancient site has produced artifacts from China, India, and Egypt, including rock crystal, glass vessels, glass beads, cowry shells, carnelian, and pottery, even though there is no proof that these people ever existed. Archaeologists concluded that the ancient city was a popular cosmopolitan resort in East Africa based on these finds.
