11. Background of Cosmic Microwaves

Found Year: 1965
Researchers at Bell Telephone Laboratories made the discovery.
Location: All around the place
The cosmos has been expanding continuously since the instant following the “big bang”. Everything that has been during those 13.8 billion years of growth has left a trace that can be observed with an incredibly potent radio telescope. The cosmic microwave background, which is made up of such remains from a very long time ago, is used to date a variety of events.

In 2013, scientists discovered electromagnetic radiation remnants that dated back up to 400,000 years from the beginning of time using the European Space Agency’s Planck satellite. Building on the discoveries of Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics, these discoveries allowed scientists to learn more than ever before about the world’s origin story.
