As time passes, it’s becoming more and more clear that humanity will eventually have to leave spaceship Earth and locate a distant planet where life exists to call home. This is inevitable, which is why astronomers have been hard at work looking for anything resembling Earth in the night sky.

A potential “new Earth” (Ross 128 b) was discovered in 2017 by Xavier Bonfils utilising data on radical velocity spanning more than a decade and located 11 light-years away. The only facts about Ross 128 b that are known for certain are that it has a mass of around 1.35 times that of Earth and receives 38% more light from its red dwarf than does Earth from the sun.
