The French military uses the Panhard-manufactured ERC 90 Sagaie, a six-wheeled armored vehicle. The ERC is amphibious, extremely maneuverable, and impervious to NBC. Of the ninety models tested, only two—the Sagaie and the Lynx—went into production.

The turret and installed 90mm gun are the primary differences between the Lynx and Sagaie. The French term for an African spear is “assegai,” or sagaie. Since its introduction in 1975, several hundred of these 8.3-ton vehicles have been produced under the Sagaie name. French military parades sometimes use the Sagaie vehicles.
