10. Couple Finds $10M in Gold Coins Buried in Yard

Place: USA’s Northern California
Year Found: 2014 Estimated Value: $10 million*
In the middle of Gold Country, a couple from Northern California made an incredible discovery while out for a dog walk. Almost one thousand gold coins were buried under the shadow of an old oak. The coins had a face value in the tens of thousands, but many of the pieces in mint condition were so scarce that their face value was much more.
In line with the leprechaun shown on Lucky Charms box covers, this pair has indeed discovered their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Understandably, the couple didn’t want a large number of people showing up at their property with metal detectors, so they made the decision to stay incognito throughout this significant news event.
