7. German Tourists Find a Caveman Buried in Ice

While trekking in the Otztal Alps in September 1991, two German vacationers came across a body. Upon informing the authorities, they learned that the body was actually the natural mummy of a guy who had lived between 3350 and 3105 B.C. At first, they believed it to be the bones of a climber.

Otzi the Iceman was his moniker, given the location of his discovery. Otzi is presently on display at an Italian museum and is the oldest natural human mummy in Europe. Oddly enough, an arrowhead discovered embedded in Otzi during his exhumation suggests that he did not die of natural circumstances.
