Daniel Kristiansen, a fourteen-year-old student in Denmark, was conducting research for his World War II homework in a neighboring field with his father, Klaus. The family tradition of the Kristiansens states that in 1944, an old German plane crashed close to their farm.

Unaware that this family mythology would have any significance, the two set out to locate the aircraft. However, they were pleasantly pleased to find a WWII fighter jet, a skeleton, an antique wallet containing cash, and a pilot’s clothing. The aircraft was a Messerschmitt Bf 109, a combat aircraft that the Luftwaffe utilized extensively during the Second World War.
