This one is quite interesting. Men’s dress shirts have a small loop of fabric on the back, as you may have seen. If you don’t believe us, check your closet; it’s there, even though it’s not really obvious. This type of loop, known as a “locker loop,” dates back to the 1960s.

The locker loops were added by men’s clothing firm GANT Co. in an attempt to attract Ivy League students. Even after returning from a workout, Ivy League students could hang up their dress shirts by that loop and keep them wrinkle-free. Men’s dress shirts are still suitable to hang up on that small loop nowadays.
