The American F/A 18-Hornet was adapted for Canadian air power, as was the original McDonnell Douglas Hornet. Following McDonnell Douglas’s victory in the 1980 New Fighter Aircraft Project, the defense business was granted the renowned fighter jet. In 1982, Hornet deliveries to the Canadian Forces commenced.

Patrols of NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) mostly rely on CF-18 aircraft. There are two versions of the CF-18 Hornets: A and B. There were 98 CF-18A single-seat fighter/ground attack aircraft produced. A two-seater aircraft used for training is called the CF-18B. There are just 40 erected. Air strike missions were conducted by CF-18As until February 15, 2016.
The F/A-18 Hornet received improvements and new design opportunities as a result of the two-phase Incremental Modernization Project, which was initiated in 2001 and completed in two stages. The upgrades featured enhanced air-to-ground and air-to-air combat capabilities, as well as improvements to the defensive suite and sensors. The communications system was replaced, as were the datalinks.
