The idea for the DANA originated in the late 1970s, when Konstruka Trencin intended to give the Czech Army an indigenous, self-propelled indirect fire support weapon that they wouldn’t have to purchase from the Soviet Union. In 1981, the DANA project was finished and put into operation.

The DANA’s unique autonomous loading system and wheeled chassis were two of its key differentiators. At the time, it was the first of its sort. The 152mm howitzer with a semi-automatic breech is the primary armament of the DANA. Cartridges and shells can be loaded into any level of the barrel by the autoloader.
