Although they don’t last forever, portable lights—such as flashlights and camping lanterns—are indispensable equipment for outdoor activities and emergencies. The battery’s efficiency deteriorates with time, and the amount of light it produces may decrease. This is particularly true for non-LED lights, as use causes the brilliance of the bulb to diminish.

While the diodes in LED devices might survive longer, the circuitry or battery may eventually fail. Their usable life can be increased with routine inspections and upkeep, such as battery replacement and appropriate storage. To make sure you’re not left in the dark when you need lighting the most, it might be time for an upgrade if your light starts to dim or flicker.
