Your Dog Would Love This DIY Dig Pit
Dogs have digging in their DNA. Wild relatives of domesticated dogs would dig holes in the ground either to store food or as cover from extreme temperatures. Though it would be impractical to gently persuade your dog to cease excavating your yard or garden, it is well within your authority to focus a dog’s digging impulse into one approved area. Choose a place in your yard where your dog can dig as much as it wants, surround that area with bricks or wood panels, then cover it with loose sand or mud.

By regularly laying its toys in the dig pit, you can show the dog that it is “theirs”. The dog will eventually limit its digging to just one area of your yard, therefore leaving the rest of it intact.
