Ease Into Brushing Teeth
Particularly if it’s their first time, many dogs object to having their teeth brushed. Apart from progressively getting the dog used to the taste of toothpaste, there are other important first actions dog owners may take to put their dog in the correct zone for a brushing session. To make the dog comfortable, first lightly massage its cheeks—outside the gum line. Then wrap some medical gauze around your index finger and begin scrubbing the gums and teeth with that instead of straight for a toothbrush.

Your dog will be more at ease with their mouth being touched after repeating that routine a few times; it will be time to progress to the real thing: brushing their teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste made for dogs.
