When French police arrived at an unexpected murder scene in 2004, they discovered that trespassers had converted a portion into a fully furnished underground residence.

This illegal residence included a bar with alcohol, a terrace, an amphitheater, and a makeshift restaurant complete with a couscous pressure cooker. Operating on a multi-line phone system and a professionally fitted electrical system, this hidden refuge demonstrated an incredible and daring use of the catacombs that combined the unexpected with the spooky.
