A cat, mirroring the fabled creature’s elusiveness, escaped rescue for two days in the mythical dragon’s lair beneath Poland’s famous Wawel Castle. After receiving reports, the Kraków Animal Welfare Society (KTOZ) made multiple attempts to free the cat, eventually bribing it with food.

The elusive cat currently resides in the cave, which is well-known for the dragon tale, giving the historic location a contemporary feel. Legend has it that the dragon was lured into consuming a sulfur-filled sheep. The spirit of the legendary beast is now captured in a statue of a dragon that breathes fire that is placed outside the cave. Maybe they ought to erect a statue of a cat as well!
