Tokyo’s Keio University’s design team created this concept automobile. The Eliica, driven by Professor Hiroshi Shimizu, can reach 100 km/h in four seconds, outpacing the Porsche Turbo at the time.

Because it is powered by a lithium-ion battery, the name stands for Electric Lithium-Ion Car. Its eight smaller-than-normal wheels enable the automobile to travel nearer the ground, maximizing its aerodynamic potential. The Eliica was able to hit 370 km/h, but the team was not content and wanted to beat the 400 km/h speed record.
