The maximum speed of the Shenyang FC-31 is 1,367 miles per hour. The mid-sized twinjet fifth-generation fighter, which is currently a prototype, made its first flight in 2012. With funding from the PLA, Shenyang Aircraft Corporation has so far completed the construction of four of these aircraft, each costing $70 million. The FC-31, also known as the “Gyrafalcon,” is expected to be a formidable opponent to the F-15 Eagle and other comparable aircraft.
