Although this vehicle was made in Austria for the German corporation Mercedes-Benz, it is used by the U.S. Marines. The Marines favor an armored G-Wagon-style vehicle over the Interim Fast Attack Vehicle (IFAV), which the SEALs popularized as a “black dune buggy.”

The ITV-LSV has since taken the place of the IFAV, which was the “it” military vehicle of the 1990s. Before the Marines realized they required an improvement, they were utilizing a Jeep, which is why the IFAV was developed. The entire cost to procure over 150 of these IFAVs for the Marines was approximately $209,000 per unit.
