The Hebrew name Achzarit means “Cruel One,” and if you get on the wrong side of this battle tank, it can be very harsh. The Achzarit is based on two Soviet-made tanks, the T-54 and T-55. The people carrier is resistant to shaped charges and armor-piercing projectiles that would damage more traditional IFVs.

The IDF Corps of Ordnance, the Achzarit’s creators, assert that it can endure multiple 124mm blows over its frontal arc. The Achzarit weighs 44 tons, fourteen of which are made up of sophisticated composite armor, making it rather heavy for an infantry transport. In essence, the Achzarit is among the IDF’s hardest carriers.
