The Swiss Army’s primary battle tank, the Panzer 68, was manufactured by Eidgenössische Konstruktionswerkstätte. It was created in the 1960s, and up until the late 1990s, it dominated the Swiss Army’s supply. The 1979 article addressed the faults of the 68 and was published in Switzerland’s well-known journal Weltwoche.

The explosive article caused the Swiss Minister of Defense to quit. The heating system, which had the potential to fire the main cannon when turned on, was one of the 68’s significant flaws. After an update, the 68’s issues were fixed, but a decade later, it was no longer the primary battle tank.
