The US self-propelled STA missile system, known as the Avenger Air Defense System, offers ground forces mobile, short-range air defense. The system shields ground forces from low-flying fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles. The Avenger and its M1097 derivative were initially created for use by all branches of the armed forces.

Currently, it is solely used by the Army, but before, the Marines also used it. The Avengers Air Defense System is based on the M1097 weapons carriage. From the Humvee family comes the Humvee, a troop carrier with a high payload and capability. Under the hood of the powerful carrier is a vintage American V8 diesel engine.
