The Sydney Harbour Bridge’s distinctive steel-through arch shape has earned it the moniker “The Coathanger.” It transports a variety of traffic through the CBD and out to the North Shore, including cars, bicycles, trains, and pedestrians. The Bridge is one of the most recognizable images of Sydney, Australia, along with the Opera House and Harbour.

The British company Dorman Long constructed the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Hell Gate Bridge in New York City, which was a crucial route for the PRR, is essentially replicated in rough form on the bridge. Even if there are some similarities between the two, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is very distinctive because of elements like the elegant flares at the extremities of the arches. At 3,770 feet, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is the seventh-longest of its kind.
Engineers Australia classified the Sydney Harbour Bridge as a National Engineering Landmark in 1988. The organization’s Engineering Heritage Recognition Program included the listing. The Sydney Harbour Bridge’s “remarkable” significance to the region led to its registration on the New South Wales State Heritage Register in 1999.
