Except for people, Kangbashi, Ordos, China has everything. The construction of this urban district began in 2000 and took sixteen years. Kangbashi is well-known for its elaborately designed municipal square, size, and low population density. In essence, Kangbashi is a well-dressed ghost town.

The main reason it became a ghost city was due to poor architecture. Forbes claims that Kangbashi’s “lack of relevant services and urban infrastructures” made it difficult to draw tourists. Poor construction combined with high property taxes discouraged new inhabitants. Although Kangbashi can accommodate a million people, only a tenth of that number live there currently.
