Flint, Michigan was once well-known for being the birthplace of the renowned American corporation General Motors. In the 1930s, it gained notoriety for giving rise to the United Auto Workers union. These days, Flint is tragically remembered as a city that was, having experienced a high rate of crime, a notorious water-quality controversy, and general neglect.

Another abandoned structure that still haunts Flint is the Carpenter Road Elementary School. Due to district budget concerns, it closed in 2015, briefly leaving northeast Flint without an elementary school.
