Mothe-Chandeniers was destroyed during the French Revolution. From the early 1900s until 1932, when a fire devastated the castle and left it abandoned, it was owned by several people. A French crowdsourcing project generated $1.6 million in 2017 to buy the castle and preserve it since it is a historically significant site that dates back centuries and shouldn’t be destroyed.
