12. Ciudad de Vacaciones Perlora

Place: Spain’s Perlora Ciudad de Vacaciones
Period: 1954
Expense: Not specified
Vacation City, also known as Perlora Ciuidad de Vacaciones in Spanish, was intended to be an opulent resort. Workers of all classes used to be able to have the opportunity to travel in the Francoist oasis—under the careful supervision of Italy’s fascist government during the 1950s, of course. This 150-building resort could accommodate 2,000 workers each day at its height.

It is now deserted. Even though Vacation City closed in 2005, visitors continue to come here. Every summer, the abandoned resort springs to life as people use the area for barbecues and lounge out outside of some dilapidated houses, treating it more like a park.
