10. Dino Island

Place: Italy’s Praia A Mare
Year: (Officially Abandoned) 1950s
Expense: Not specified
Dino Island, in Praia A Mare, Italy, is a gorgeous island with the remnants of a failed resort; it would make the ideal backdrop for a horror film with a survival theme. Before erosion ruined the bridge and made it dangerous for even human feet to cross, Dino was connected to its mainland.

The surviving structures provide insight into a brief segment of Dino Island’s extensive past. Once upon a time, the Kingdom of Naples, Islamic and Ottoman ships, Norman conquerors, and pirates all made port calls at Dino. A private corporation tried to make Dino Island a tourist destination in the 1950s, but plans fell through, and Dino was abandoned, leaving behind the remnants of a restaurant and a few buildings that resembled houses.
