Numerous mining employees perished as a result of two mining explosions that happened in 1913 and 1923. In 1950, the town formally closed its doors following years of abandonment and ghost stories. The last surviving remnant of Dawson is now its lone road, which leads to a cemetery with broken headstones and overgrown grass.
