3.Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBM) Trident II D5

The height of strategic submarine-launched deterrent is embodied in the Trident II D5. Deployed on US and British submarines, this intercontinental ballistic missile system may deliver multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs) with hitherto unheard-of precision. The D5, with a range of more than 7,000 miles, can strike targets across continents without drawing attention in the ocean’s depths. Crucially part of the nuclear triad, its dependability record of over 98% during test flights ranks it among the most reliable strategic weapon systems ever built.

4.VA-111 Shkval Supercavitating Torpedo

The Russian VA-111 Shkval offers a breakthrough method for underwater weaponry technology. This technology generates a supercavitation bubble around itself unlike traditional torpedoes, which enables it to swim at hitherto unheard-before rates of up to 200 knots underwater. With current anti-torpedo technologies, this great speed makes counteraction quite challenging. The weapon reduces water resistance to very low levels by means of specialised nose architecture and gas injection systems, therefore preserving the cavitation bubble. Although its range is small when compared to traditional torpedoes, its sheer speed makes it a great threat in close-range contacts.
