French inventiveness in mobile artillery systems is embodied in the CAESAR (CAmion Equipped with an Artillery System). Through its advanced fire control system, this truck-mounted 155mm howitzer combines mobility with extraordinary accuracy. Using conventional ammunition, the CAESAR can have a CEP of less than 0.5% of range; with guided weaponry, its accuracy increases still more. The computer-operated positioning system and automated aiming mechanism of the system allow quick deployment and exact target engagement. In both conventional and asymmetric combat, its six rounds per minute firing capability combined with accuracy makes it especially deadly.
6. 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV (Russia)
Featuring a unique dual-feed autoloader system and excellent fire control capabilities, the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV is the newest in Russian artillery technology. Through its automated laying and loading systems and advanced target acquisition technology, this self-propelled howitzer achieves extraordinary precision. Although its rate of fire of up to 16 rounds per minute does not impair precision, the system can keep a CEP of less than 15 meters at ranges up to 40 kilometres. Advanced barrel design and electro-thermal-chemical technologies of the 2S35 help to explain its constant accuracy over several shooting conditions.
