31. Break Room Chairs

Price: Unknown
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: Unknown
One boss was trying to do something nice for his employees when he decided to purchase new chairs for the break room. Unfortunately, these chairs were not the correct size for his adult employees, as they were better-suited for elementary school kids.

The picture featured the boss attempting to sit on his purchase, surrounded by the cubicles that the chairs were apparently supposed to go with. As one commenter joked, unless the workplace is “using child labor,” the chairs are going to have to go back. This leads to another lesson: always check the return policy before making a big purchase.

32. Running Shoes

Price: Unknown
Made by: Fashion
Purchased at: Unknown
The brand “FASHION” should likely have been this unwary purchaser’s first clue. One shopper attempted to buy arch-support running shoes in blue and white. Instead of that purchase, they got something far different. The base of these running shoes ended up being glued-on and about two inches too short for the shoe.

Buying shoes is always tricky online, even from vendors like Nike, as you never 100% know if the new shoes you’re getting are actually the right size. However, it’s unlike that Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, or other big-name brands would ever make a product quite like this one.

33. Multivitamins

Price: $5-$10*
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: Amazon
Well, at least Chinese finger traps are more exciting than multivitamins, though why someone would need seventy-two of them is unclear. One shopper ordered multivitamins from Amazon.com, but instead of receiving those, the online retail giant delivered Chinese finger traps (in multiple colors) right to their door.

While multivitamins cost anywhere from $5 to $10 (or more, depending on the brand and how much good stuff is in them), Chinese finger traps are decidedly more expensive. On Amazon, you can get that same 72-pack for $8-$12. How exactly Amazon managed to confuse the two differently-named items is unclear.

34. Rainbow Trout

Price: $5.85*
Made by: R. R. Spink & Sons
Purchased at: Unknown
This one caused somewhat of a stir on Reddit, as people debated over who was more in the wrong: the purchaser or the company. One unwary Reddit user attempted to purchase a package of R.R. Spink & Sons Hot Smoked Rainbow Trout, only to find that half the package was seemingly missing. Only the window of the packaging actually had the trout, making for a missing fish.

Or was it? As other Redditors pointed out, it was the customer’s job to check the packaging for the exact quantity, whether purchasing from a smaller company like R.R. Spink or a huge corporation like Walmart.

35. Blue Jays Jersey

Price: $53.97*
Made by: Sport Chek
Purchased at: Sport Chek
One Toronto fan was quite unimpressed with her purchase of a Toronto Blue Jays jersey from Sport Chek, a popular sports apparel site that sells jerseys, fan wear, and pretty much everything else. The Jays jersey costs $53.97 on the site (down from $76.97, maybe because of the tweet heard ‘round the world).

The purchasing fan found that her Jays jersey contained a notable spelling error—spelling Blue “B-L-E-U” instead of “B-L-U-E.” She tweeted Sport Chek, who apologized and asked for the order number and contact information, presumably to send a replacement jersey (and hopefully some other free stuff for her troubles).

36. Punching Bag

Price: $20*
Made by: A Chinese company
Purchased at: A Chinese website
Boxing can be a great way to work out and to ease stress. However, one purchaser found that his punching bag actually increased his stress levels, as it was not exactly up to snuff. The purchaser bought it for $20 “from China,” and, when he hit it too hard, it exploded.

What was inside? Well, everything. There are pieces of cloth, including bra cups, debris, and probably whatever was laying around on the factory floor. Punching bags are usually supposed to be filled with sand, grains, or rags (as well as air or water, sometimes), but they should be sturdy enough to take hit after hit.

37. “I Want to Believe” Patch

Price: $6.99
Made by: SOUTHYU (I Want to Leave)
Purchased at: Amazon
Considering how tumultuous 2020 has been, this is a sentiment we probably all feel. One Reddit user purchased what they thought was an “I Want to Believe” patch depicting an alien spaceship over the mountains. What they got, instead, was a patch with a similar design that said, “I Want to Leave.”

The mistaken patch has a doppelganger, made by SOUTHYU, that Amazon likely sent instead. The “I Want to Leave” patch is embroidered and is labeled a “military tactical morale patch.” Maybe next time, it would be a good idea to try Etsy instead, as that craft site may yield better results.

38. Cast Iron Skillet

Price: $20 to $275 (for a normal skillet)
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: Unknown online retailer
If you didn’t see the caption, you might have thought that one Reddit user owned a giant wine glass and record-breaking, huge onion. However, as the Redditor stated, this was actually another “failure to check dimensions” online shopping disaster. The Redditor attempted to purchase a cast-iron skillet, only to find that the skillet they bought was the correct size for a doll house’s kitchen.

Cast-iron skillets are usually wide-ranging in price, costing anywhere from $20 to $275. Target sells them, as do home goods stores and online vendors like Amazon. The normal cast iron skillet size should be around 12 inches.

39. Wedding Rings

Price: $5,000-$7,000* (average wedding ring price)
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: Unknown online retailer
One Redditor learned the hard way that, when it comes to engagement rings, you should go to a jeweler like Signet in-person, get sized, and make sure the rings are what they say they are. A married couple will have a funny story to tell their kids after buying wedding rings that were maybe only one-third the circumference of normal rings.

The silver rings were ordered “online,” though not much detail was given as to who made them. If their future kids have dolls, these rings could be bracelets for them. At the very least, they are hilarious props for the story.

40. Desk Chair

Price: $10
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: Amazon
This Tweet got over a quarter-million retweets, as people laughed at the size of the desk chair that one Twitter user, Savannah, bought online at Amazon.com. The tweet also got half a million favorites and counting. The clear desk chair, which Savannah thought cost $10, ended up being more fit for a baby than an adult.

When asked whether she’d read the dimensions, the unwary shopper admitted that she didn’t, as she saw the cheap price and clicked Buy It. I guess this another lesson learned: always, always, always check the dimensions before you buy.

41. Heavy Duty Work Boots

Price: Unknown
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: Unknown online retailer
Another hilarious shopping fail was that of a Redditor who tried to purchase a pair of WulfSport boots. Instead, the Redditor got a pair of rain boots with an extremely inaccurate design and logo painted on them. Off-roading boots have to be tough, and WulfSport’s Orca boots are the closest item to what these off-brand rainboots purported to be.

Heavy Duty Work Boots @u/Tzl1337 / Reddit.com | @u/Tzl1337 / Reddit.com
The Orca boots are made of top-grain leather and have a suede heat shield, reinforced toe cap, extended shin guard, and sturdy plastic straps. The boots that this Redditor received were definitely not made of anything even close to that.

42. Festival Tent

Price: $100-$200 (for a correctly-sized tent)
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: Unknown Online Retailer
Of all the shopping fails on this list, this one certainly has one of the funniest pictures. Posted by an Imgur user, the tent was supposed to be adult-sized. The purchaser bought it in 2010, thinking that it would be perfect for a festival. The tent supposedly could house an adult and two kids.

Festival Tent @nampix / Shutterstock | @Kellymcdouble / Imgur.com
However, that was not even remotely the tent size. The purchaser found that the tent could fit an adult male, but only if he was curled in the fetal position. It might be better to shell out extra cash at Gander Outdoors or a similar store next time.

43. Bedroom Carpet

Price: Unknown
Made by: Chendongdong
Purchased at: Amazon
As one Twitter user, Adam Hess found, it is “important” for vendors to “specify” the size of the product that they’re selling, otherwise, mistakes will happen. He found that out the hard way when he went to buy a rug online from Amazon for his room.

Bedroom Carpet @AdamHess1 / Twitter.com | @AdamHess1 / Twitter.com
The blue-printed rug from seller Chendongdong ended up being maybe six inches in length, far from the larger size that it appeared in the photo. Oddly, the rug already had a 5/5-star customer review, so someone must have purchased it for a dollhouse and been satisfied (or the review was fake).

44. Lion Flower Bouquet

Price: $59.99*
Made by: 1-800-Flowers
Purchased at: 1-800-Flowers
1-800-Flowers sells bouquets of all shapes and sizes, and their animal bouquets usually retail for about $59.99. One Facebook user had to call out the company on its review page when she ordered the “Blooming Lion” Flower Arrangement and got, instead of a cute lion face, a very disordered bunch of flowers.

Lion Flower Bouquet @Colleen Kane / Facebook.com | @Colleen Kane / Facebook.com
Though a face was somewhat visible, it definitely didn’t look enough like the picture. The Facebook user stated on the site, “I don’t know about this…I don’t think this is what I ordered.” The picture went viral, and hopefully the flower shop gave her free flowers (or at least a discount) for her troubles.

45. Flower Bouquet

Price: $6.49*
Made by: Sainsbury’s
Purchased at: Sainsbury’s
At Sainsbury’s, apparently, when certain flowers are out of stock, it is the company’s policy to replace them with something that is similar enough that the user is still getting his or her money’s worth. Sounds reasonable, right? One Twitter denizen found her replacement to be less-than-satisfactory—and she had the pics to prove it.

Flower Bouquet @Alison Richards / Pinterest | @SuzanneBradish / Twitter.com
Twitter user Suzanne Bradish ordered a Sainsbury Spring Show. Instead, Sainsbury’s delivered a Spring Show Onion Bunch. Instead of a colorful display, perfect for garnishing food, Suzanne got 100 grams’ worth of onion stalks, with not a single flower in sight. She tweeted, “Not a good pancake topping.” To say the least.
