Dish soap is something you should “never” retain after it expires, according to Spoon University. Before it expires, dish soap lasts for 12 to 18 months. The dish soap loses its effectiveness and its ability to remove microorganisms once its expiration date has passed. You might as well use just water to wash your dishes.

Additionally, dish soap that has gone bad won’t make a good lather or clean your dishes. This one probably won’t have a big impact because dish soap doesn’t last very long once it’s opened unless you purchase a large amount. Fun fact: if you dilute the soap in the bottle, it may eventually lead to the proliferation of microorganisms.
