Wine Folly stated that wine in a box is not “designed” to age. The package will last you 6–8 months if it is left unopened. You have six weeks from the time you open the package to consume it. While wine in a box keeps better after opening (a bottle will go bad in just a week), the box keeps the wine from “aging like fine wine.”

The coloring of boxed wine can be used to determine its quality. You can tell if your beloved Franzia or Carlo Rossi will taste like vinegar or perhaps wood if there is a change in hue and opaqueness.
