It goes without saying that if your socks have holes in the toe or heel area, or if you have to drag them up over your heel all day, you should replace them, no matter how much you love them. Whether you’re wearing anklets or high socks, slippage indicates that they should be changed.

Socks should generally be changed every six months. Cotton socks don’t last very long—about six months, assuming you’re on your feet all day. Compression stockings should be changed every four months (or, at most, six months) because they last less time.
