9. Tom Wilson on Ice Gets Too Physical
The fine will be due in 2021.
Estimated Total Fine: $5,000*
Tom Wilson, a forward for the Washington Capitals, has emerged as one of the NHL’s most aggressive provocateurs. He plays hockey in a unique way. He hits hard, plays hard, and typically scores 20 goals or more in a season. A player must be careful if Wilson has a grudge against them. Furthermore, he doesn’t appear to give a damn about what other people—including the media and the league—think.

Clauses in the NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement prevented Tom Wilson from writing a much larger sanction than the $5,000 he was fined for hitting New York Rangers player Pavel Buchnevich in the back of the head.
