Mary of Teck was the original owner of the Iveagh Tiara, which was later worn by Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester. On her wedding day in 1893, Queen Mary received the Iveagh Tiara as a gift. The Irish nobility, Lord and Lady Iveagh, who rose to the rank of earl and countess, are the source of the Tiara’s name.

The Guinness family was made up of the Iveaghs. The Tiara’s name is pronounced similarly to “Ivy.” One of the biggest triads in the Royal Collection, the Iveagh Tiara, was one of the very few jewelry items that Mary of Teck left alone.
