Beginning in 2007, David Narkevic and Duncan Lorimer searched the historical data from the Australian Parkes radio telescope archives for pulsars. They had no idea at the moment that they were about to embark on an incredible journey and uncover one of the most fascinating discoveries in recent memory.

They discovered the Lorimer Burst, which was identified in the Parkes data in 2001 and is a very significant discovery. This instance of the fast radio burst (FRB) has been identified as the Lorimer burst, which was the first one to be identified and had been detected in the Parkes data in 2001.
