The fourth-generation, multirole Dassault Mirage 2000 jet fighter was created by Dassault Aviation. The Mirage 2000 was developed in 1978 and entered service with the French Air Force in 1984. The Indian Air Force, the Taiwanese Air Force, and the United Arab Emirates Air Force all operate the Mirage 2000.

The Mirage 2000 was somewhat of a leading precursor, having been the basis for various versions, including the 2000N and 2000D built by DUAVF. There have been 601 of these light-weight fighters manufactured so far, and they would later be developed into the Dassault Mirage 4000.
