The Outback was deemed a “smart alternative” to purchasing an SUV by Consumer Reports. Even though the Outback had a lower seating position than a typical SUV, it could nonetheless pull objects with ease. One of Subaru’s best-selling models is the Outback, whose average yearly repair cost of $607 is only marginally higher than that of comparable midsize cars (but still less than the class average).

According to CarEdge, maintenance and repair expenses will total about $8,037 for the first ten years, which is $843 less than the cost of the SUV altogether. Unfortunately, the Outback’s 24% chance of requiring a significant repair this decade is 2.47% more than that of other comparable vehicles.
