5. Kids Nowadays Will Never Have to Experience the Frustration of Dealing With This

Children used to have to spend what seemed like hours untangling the cursed phone chord, only to have it become twisted once more five minutes later. Not to mention the pleasures of attempting a private discussion while your parent could be listening in on the other side. With the current limitless wireless technology, all we can do is sit and feel somewhat envious.
Since every single one they have come across has never even needed a chord, kids today will truly never know the difficulty of untangling the cord of a landline phone. More than just a nuisance, the twisted phone wire was a rite of passage, a test of patience every adolescent had to go through. Recall extending the connection to its limits and searching for that one place in the home where you might have a quiet talk. Alternatively the ability to subtly grab the phone when someone else was using it, intending to listen without being discovered? The phone cord was another unanticipated hazard; how often did you trip over it or unintentionally drag the whole phone off the table? Not to mention the fulfilling way you could wrap the cord around your finger during a serious conversation only to spend the next ten minutes trying to reverse the damage. Unlike modern multitasking phone users, the limited mobility of corded phones meant that phone talks were an event; you had to commit to being in one location. There’s much to be said about the time when a phone call meant giving someone your whole, undivided attention, even if we might not miss the tangling and lack of privacy. In many respects, that basic cord linked us not only to our friends but also to a simpler period in technology.
