When NFL player Troy Polamalu called his wife on his cell phone after taking a severe hit during a game in 2011, he was fined $10,000. Players’ use of mobile phones while on the sidelines is prohibited by league policy. Troy completed his tasks in defiance of the regulation.

The former Steelers star was justified in trying to reassure his wife that he was okay, given the force with which hits can be delivered in the NFL. Football players are also people, as seen by Polamalu’s actions toward supporters and viewers. Reassuring a loved one can occasionally be worth a $10,000 fine.
