For photographers and sky observers, catching the fleeting splendour of rainbow clouds offers both difficulties and possibilities. These events are transient and their sometimes inconspicuous appearance calls for particular methods and tools to properly record. Polarised sunglasses can improve the visibility of rainbow clouds by lowering glare and raising contrast in the sky, therefore facilitating naked eye viewing. Although these glasses can intensify the colours, they should be used carefully to prevent distortion of the natural appearance of the phenomenon. Never look directly at the sun; observers should also be aware of eye safety especially in relation to the sun.
Rising digital photography and image processing technologies have transformed the recording of atmospheric events including rainbow clouds. Sophisticated editing tools and high-resolution sensors let photographers catch and improve elements that might be challenging for the unaided eye. But it’s important to strike a balance between authenticity and improvement so that the final pictures fairly depict the noted phenomena.
