Although it is not anticipated that the first phase of construction of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) will be completed before 2025, when it is, it will be the largest fusion reactor in the world.
A double-walled steel container called a “vacuum vessel” will be used by magnetic fields to confine the plasma inside the ITER. Compared to previous fusion vessels produced, the vacuum vessel being constructed for the ITER will be two times larger and sixteen times heavier.
