Twenty-three years later, the subway system’s initial section started to run. The line was finished by the year 2000, with two major extensions occurring in the 1990s.
With a network of nearly 25 kilometers, the Toei Oedo Line in Tokyo transports one million passengers every day at a speed of nearly forty miles per hour. The entire loop just takes eighty-one minutes, and with trains leaving every two to three minutes, there’s never a significant wait.
