The AgustaWestland AW101 is a medium-lift helicopter intended for both military and commercial applications. It was established in the 1990s as a result of an alliance between Westland Helicopters of the United Kingdom and Agusta of Italy. It was created to satisfy both countries’ needs for a contemporary naval utility helicopter.

Italy, the UK, Japan, and the US are the manufacturing locations for the AW101, also known as the Merlin in Denmark, Portugal, and Brain. Because it has been utilized for everything from anti-submarine warfare to search and rescue, the AW101 is somewhat of a jack of all trades. It has taken the place of other earlier helicopters, including the Sikorsky Sea King, since 1999.
