Since going into service in 1976, the Eagle has been one of the most successful fighters, with 100 victories and zero losses in aerial combat. The IDF, which has a particular fondness for the F-15, has accounted for the majority of its kills. The most recent version of the Eagle, the F-15X, has improved speed, range, and payload. According to Boeing, X is intended to serve as the U.S. Air Force’s “backbone fighter.”
