When Dyson released its bladeless fan in 2009, customers were taken aback. The Telegraph then noted that, once more, Japan had advanced a few years ahead of us, having created the Dyson bladeless fan as early as 1981. Many imitation companies hopped on the bandwagon once Dyson re-released the fans.

Nevertheless, it appears that this useful fan—which looks futuristic enough to have originated from iRobot—was really invented in Japan earlier. A brushless electric motor powers these fans, directing airflow through the device’s circular hoop.
